A single bay with a small island in front of it, reached by a hundred-metre wooden jetty. Camp de Mar is small and has no grown centre — and here both are features rather than faults.

Camp de Mar belongs to the municipality of Andratx and lies between Peguera and Port d’Andratx on the south-west coast. The place consists essentially of one bay, the wooded slopes above it and a golf course inland.
The landmark is the Illeta, a small rocky island in the middle of the bay with a restaurant on it. A wooden jetty just under a hundred metres long runs out from the beach. There is nothing else like it on Mallorca, and it is why the place is recognisable in photographs.
The beach is a crescent framed by pine slopes and carries the Blue Flag. Because the bay is sheltered on both sides, the water is calmer here than on the open west coast.
Camp de Mar has no grown town centre. There is no plaça, no weekly market, no street of everyday shops. If you want to buy groceries you drive to Peguera, four kilometres, or to Andratx.
You need to know that before you buy, and it is the point where the idea of the place and daily life in it can diverge. Equally, it is exactly why Camp de Mar is quieter in August than its neighbours: there is no through traffic, because there is nothing to drive through to.
The place divides broadly in two.
On the water and on the slopes immediately above the bay are the properties with a direct outlook over the beach and the Illeta — the shortest walk, the scarcest supply.
Inland, around the Golf de Andratx, an eighteen-hole course at the edge of the village, lie the more spacious plots. More ground, more quiet, a view over the fairways and the wooded slopes rather than the water — and nothing works here without a car.
The municipality of Andratx had 11,735 registered inhabitants in 2022, against 11,919 in 2011. Over eleven years it has shrunk by 2 per cent.
The second series is the more interesting one. The registered foreign population stood at 4,178 in 2011 and today, at 3,012, is around 28 per cent below that. That is the mark of the financial crisis, and in Andratx it has not been made up.
Both series come from the Spanish statistics office’s Padrón Continuo and record only people with a registered address. Second homes do not appear in them — and second homes are the greater part of what is bought on Mallorca. The figures describe the town, not the market. Read as a demand indicator, they mislead.
The figures cover the municipality of Andratx as a whole, which also takes in Port d’Andratx, Sant Elm and the municipal town itself. Camp de Mar is the smallest of its coastal settlements.
Camp de Mar serves a particular purpose: close to Palma, quiet, water at the door and no bustle. Living here year-round means planning around the car and accepting that part of the catering trade closes over winter.
For anyone who wants exactly that combination there is little comparable on the south-west coast — the stock is correspondingly small, and structurally little is added. The place is boxed in between sea, golf course and wooded slope.
